Choose Love – February is considered by many to be the “Month of Love”. This is mainly because in this month many celebrate “romantic love” on St. Valentine’s Day. Romantic love is a wonderful thing and it is usually reserved for one special person. Usually, that special person gives us a warm feeling when we think about them and we have a great desire to spend time with them and to do things that will make them happy. When we talk about having this romantic love we many time say that we “fell” into it. It was not a choice we were simply going along and before we knew it our heart ran off ahead our head and we found that we had deep feelings of affection for that person. However, there is a love that all believers can have for everyone. As a matter of fact, God commands in His Word that all believers share this kind of love with everyone. The love I am referring to is unconditional love. This love is not based on a feeling, so you do not fall into it. It does not typically come with a “warm and fuzzy” every time you are around the persons you give this love to. And you might not have a deep desire to make them happy. And the reason we are commanded to have this unconditional love for everyone is because it is not based on a feeling in the heart but a decision of the head. This decision is that we will treat everyone with kindness, care about them, and if at all possible, will minister to their needs. Many times we confuse the two loves and feel like we cannot love someone because we do not “feel” like they are nice person or because they have made us “feel” upset or even angry. But it is not based on our feelings. Even so it is difficult, if not even impossible, by our human nature to choose to be kind and do good to those who we do not know, and certainly to those we do not like. The good news is God only gives the command to those who are His because we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. It is only by His Holy Spirit’s Power that we can love every single person on Earth. So, in this Month of Love make a choice that you will love everyone unconditionally.

Blessings!
